Bobby didn't really notice that St. John wasn't around until he came home to the mansion. And even then he was mostly concerned with Jean's death.

Then he turned around in the kitchen to offer John a chilled coke, and... John wasn't there. And when he fell asleep, it wasn't to the sound of a lighter being clicked on and off. When he woke up, there was no one in the room with him. In the bathroom, there was only his toothbrush, his razor... He stared into the mirror and said, "John's gone. He's not coming back."

That's when everything started going wrong.
