Trix and Chex!

Stats
Full Names: Trix and Chex
Date of Hatching: Trix: May 12, 1999. Chex: May 14, 1999.
Died: (Chex) December, 2002
Color: Both pearly, went gray because males do.
Uncommon Facts: Tris shattered his wing when he was a baby, and managed to fly anyway! Chex, when upset with a bird who wasn't learning what he was trying to teach, would kick the other bird!

Those are Trix and Chex--the barely visible fluff balls, not the two adults. I couldn't find a baby photo of Trix--but rest assured, he looked exactly like Chex, only bigger! If you can see the photo well enough, Chex is the tiny little pink one and Trix is the fuzzy yellow one. Chex was only a few minutes old when this was taken!

That's Kris on the left, and Chex on the right!

Trix and Chex were the first babies. Both were healthy and happy, and both started singing early. Trix, (a lot bigger than Chex and even than Confetti, pretty quick,) broke his wing in an accident. We were told he would never fly, but as it turned out after he was adopted he flew into a tree 200 feet away! Luckily, he remembered what 'come' meant, and came back when they called! I was going to keep both the boys, but Confetti and Trix started having fights over dominance, and they were getting bloody. I sold Trix to a really nice family, though we don't keep in touch nearly as much as I would like.

Chex stayed with me. He inherited his mother's small size, but did end up being the dominant bird! He'd always been skinny, and he was even noisier than his father (if that's possible!). Confetti and Chex used to constantly try to outsing each other. They drove me nearly deaf when one would sit on each shoulder and try to sing LOUDLY.

Chex was a character. He reminded me of a human boy--one of those really, really rambunctious types! I would get him out and he ran around while I read a book--at a year old, he would use my hair as a slide! He, too, talks and gives me commands. He doesn't know "come" very well, but he's very good with his leash! He's so hyper all the time that I have a hard time teaching him tricks, but he's great at learning noises! In fact, I wish he weren't so good . . . ;)

Chex is pearly, like Kris, but now that he's got his adult feathers in he's what's known as a gray--yellow face, orange cheek patches, and white bars on his wings, but otherwise solid gray! All the male pearlies do that. As soon as I get a photo of him now I'll put it up!

Chex also got depressed if I didn't hold him--in fact, if I went for more than three days or so he stopped eating! That was slightly frustrating, come time for my finals!

Chex got cancer on his wingtip while we were in Canada, and when they put him under to operate he wasn't able to pull out of the anathesia. Emmy and I were sad to see him go, but I think Confetti was glad to be Man Of The Cage again...

Chex, now, with his leash on!
